Inspired by the loss of the vocalist's uncle, port's "Crypto" receives its long-awaited standalone digital release. Originally featured on KiliKiliVilla's While We're Dead 3, the song will finally be available worldwide as a digital single.
Alternative rock band port, based in the Kanto region of Japan, will release their new digital single "Crypto" on all major streaming platforms on August 12, 2026.
Originally included on KiliKiliVilla's 2025 compilation album While We're Dead 3, "Crypto" quickly became one of the compilation's most requested songs for a standalone streaming release. Encouraged by listeners' continued support - and by the band's own desire to bring the song to a wider audience - port worked with KiliKiliVilla to make its first official digital single release possible.
"Crypto" was born from the vocalist's experience of losing his uncle. The song reflects on an intensely personal loss while exploring the universal experience of saying goodbye to someone close. The title refers to how memories of a loved one can eventually become like a code - still present, but increasingly difficult to decipher.
The song moves between quiet grief that slowly settles into the heart and overwhelming waves of emotion that refuse to be contained. Driving rhythms, walls of distorted guitars, and melodies tinged with nostalgia bring these conflicting emotions together. Drawing from emo, post-hardcore, and indie rock, port delivers a soundscape where raw intensity and fragile vulnerability exist side by side.
This marks the band's first new release since February 2024. With "Crypto", port hopes to reconnect with listeners who first discovered them through While We're Dead 3, while also introducing the band to a new audience around the world.
port is an indie rock band formed in Sendai in 2015 by Naoki Ota (vocals, guitar), Shoki Kanno (drums), and Ryoma Toyosato (bass), and has been based in Tokyo since 2019. The band is heavily influenced by '90s US emo, alternative rock, and slacker rock, characterized by its unique style of guitar play, aggressive bass and drum combination, and straightforward, heart-stirring vocals.
