Just had fun
yi
The second single by yi, featuring two tracks.
"For you", an alternative pop track that weaves a dark atmosphere and destructive sounds through a diverse range of developments, poses a simple yet profound question to the listener.
The title track, "Just had fun", is an alternative rock song that ironically portrays the complexity of human introspection, where resignation and intensity intermingle, as well as the traces of self-consciousness that emerge when looking down upon those emotions from a distance. This is expressed through distorted, wave-like sound design and a lyrical approach incorporating religious motifs.
Following yi's previous solo release, "Walker by the shore", this work continues to explore the "turbulence of human introspection" through a broad range of sound-making and musical developments. Through this continued exploration, the release takes on a greater variety of musical textures and a wider fluctuation in emotional intensity.
With its two-track structure, the work as a whole carries a weighty sense of pressure, further emphasizing its overarching theme.
Artist Profile
yi
Born in Fukuoka, Japan, he grew up listening to domestic rock music as well as American pops and R&B from the 1970s and 1980s. Continually inspired by forms of expression that transcend technique, he broadened his perspective while exploring his own modes of expression and production. In 2024, he began pursuing music in earnest. With the concept of symbolizing humanity at its core, he embraces a genre-fluid approach and bold sound design unafraid of ambiguity or density. Through this, his work portrays human introspection, not in binaries, but as a gradient in which opposing elements coexist.
