This is the original soundtrack for the film F(R)ICTION (Japanese title: Honto ni Atta Hanashi (no Hanashi) / Directed by Yuri Takei / Starring Koji Mizukami), with all music composed and arranged by Maika Loubté. Known for her work rooted in electronic music, this marks Maika Loubté's first time composing and arranging the music for an entire feature film. The previously released theme song, "Hagane-no-uma," also closes the album.

The album features 28 tracks running approximately 40 minutes in total, with a wide-ranging sound built around analog synthesizers and sampling. From the classical themes and pipe organ duets that accompany the film-within-the-film, Takako and Masaki's Love Story, to the "(Justice)" series, which quietly shares sampled hymn material, and experimental pieces in which off-pitch shakuhachi and pan flutes spar with each other, through to ambient passages carried by deep pad synths--the music is designed to fuel both the madness and humor of the story.

One particularly distinctive element is the "(Song)" series, created as in-store BGM within the film. Ranging from dance-pop inspired by early '90s club music to French pop songs evoking fantasies of first love, Maika Loubté herself performs the vocals assuming the personas of "different artists." The intrusion of seemingly out-of-place pop songs into otherwise serious scenes is a unique source of humor in the film.

Also featured are the dance track "Hagane-no-ko," derived from the theme song "Hagane-no-uma," and the ambient track "Hagane air," which carries forward the sonic atmosphere of its intro. Together, they create a flow toward the ending, allowing listeners to retrace the experience of the film in the theater through a single album.

The cover art features the visual from the film's main poster. Available across streaming services, the album lets you take the world of the film home with you.
