Inspired by the spirit of early-1970s Japanese psychedelic rock and heavy acid rock, SHARAKU transforms the Buddhist concept of "Shiki Soku Ze Ku" into a four-part musical journey.
IRO. SUNAWACHI. KORE. SORA.
The four tracks move through desire, boundaries, existence, and finally emptiness.
Heavy, repetitive modal riffs, raw fuzz guitar, cyclical rhythms inspired by Japanese festival music, and the tension and silence of Noh collide with a distinctive vocal approach that reshapes English through Japanese pronunciation, rhythm, and physical expression.
Rather than adding Japanese ornamentation to Western rock, SHARAKU builds rock from Japanese rhythm, breath, space, and language itself.
This album does not explain Buddhism.
It moves through it.
From desire to emptiness.
Four tracks. Four characters. One phrase.
