Gota Nishidera (NONA REEVES) has launched a new cover album project, delving deeply into city pop, J-pop, and Showa-era pop! The second pre-release single from the meticulously selected cover album (scheduled for release in February 2026) is Off Course's smash hit "Yes-No."
Off Course, who made their breakthrough with "Ai Wo Tomenaide" and "Sayonara," released their 1980 cover of "Yes-No," a poignant love song with a touch of rock. This cover version by Gota Nishidera is a tribute to the up-tempo, rock-infused song. Released in 1980, this song signaled the beginning of a new era, but the arrangement deliberately incorporates the atmosphere and flavor of music from the 1980s onward, reflecting on it from a modern perspective. The vocals, overflowing with love for the original, create a truly irresistible result.
The song was co-arranged and produced by Gota Nishidera and his close friend Tomoya Yamagata. The arrangement adds a rock feel with a rhythmic structure that deliberately emphasizes the 8-beat, and the chorus work in the chorus is both beautiful and sad, resulting in an excellent cover.
He debuted in 1997 as the singer and main songwriter of NONA REEVES. Since then, he has worked as a music producer, lyricist and composer for many artists and projects, including Shonentai, SMAP, V6, YUKI, Yasuyuki Okamura, A.B.C-Z and Airi Suzuki. Outside of the band, he is also active as a writer, MC and runs his own YouTube channel, Nishidera Gota Channel (NGC).
