Artist Profile

  • Sota Asano

    Born in Aichi Prefecture, he started playing taiko at the age of 9 in a local taiko club and began studying taiko under Yukio Umemura at the age of 13. Since the age of 17, he has performed in France, Taiwan, Singapore, and other countries in Japan and abroad as the leader of "Super taiko junior" produced by wadaiko player Hiroyuki Hayashida. Currently, while actively performing as a solo taiko player, he is also known for his collaborations with shamisen, erhu, and DJs, and also performs in his own band unit composed of various Japanese instruments. He has also won numerous competitions, including the grand prize in ZIP-FM 77.8's "Dream Prize 22" and the runner-up prize in TOWNWORK present's "Campus Life +1". In 2017, he was invited to perform at the "Taiko Festival" in Tokyo. In 2017, he is also an artist as a Creator Scholar of the Kuma Foundation, from which only 50 people were selected out of 2,750 applicants. In the fall of 2019, he will perform in "Wind of Tsugaru," a performance at Carnegie Hall
