Working the night shift at a convenience store. I am sleepy there are few customers and time passes slowly. But lately I have something small to look forward to. There is a regular guy who comes at the same time every night. He always buys a cafe latte and an onigiri. I have seen him carrying a study guide so maybe he is preparing for exams or studying for a certification. Thinking about how hard he is working makes me want to cheer him on. I do not know his name and we barely talk. Just do you need a bag and no thanks. But the moment our eyes meet at the register makes me happy. Thank you for coming I say and my voice wavers a little. A small crush born at a late night convenience store. I hope he comes again tomorrow.
