Life in the past was far less convenient and much harsher than it is today.
If I had lived in those times, would I have been able to survive?
As I pondered this question, I imagined the people who came before us, living with fierce determination, fighting their way through difficult times, perhaps burning brightly even if their lives were short.
With the oiran (a high-ranking courtesan of historical Japan) as a symbol, I composed this piece while reflecting on the strength and vitality of those who lived long before us.
