    Artist Profile

    • Wack Wack Rhythm Band

Formed in 1992 by friends around Shimokitazawa Slits and Shibuya DJ Bar Inkstick, including Yamashita Hiroshi, who would later become one of the driving forces behind the FREE SOUL movement and a leading figure in the Tokyo Mod scene. Brand New Heavies, who were visiting Japan at the time, liked their live performance, leading to their first recording experience at ACID JAZZ Studio in London. They participated in the demo recording of Kenji Ozawa's debut song and Cornelius' live tour, and made their CD debut in 1993 with the three-song EP "TOKYO SESSION" from Trattoria Records, led by Keigo Oyamada. Since then, they have interacted with various scenes and artists both in Japan and abroad, including Rhymester, Konishi Yasuharu, Crazy Ken Band, Ska Flames, Speech Defect, Stone Foundation, and Hoshino Michiru, and have been shaking up the floors of clubs and live houses across the country with their hybrid mod sound that combines a variety of music such as soul, funk, Latin, rock, and jazz. A one-and-only funky instrumental party band. They have released five albums, including a best-of album, 7-inch records, cassette tapes, etc. He has also recorded in many compilations and guest appearances.
