On February 4, 2025, westman8 will release their first mini album, the City Pop Vol.1.
Yohei Nishi, a music composer who is a member of the pop band Balconny, which is based in Fukuoka Prefecture, Japan and has produced and provided numerous songs, has started selling songs rearranged using AI under the new name westman8.
City pop is something westman8 has loved in real time, and this time we have collected songs with a city pop feel from among the songs he has rearranged.
He focused on "decades," imagining the characteristic sounds of each decade from the 1970s to the 2010s and creating songs sprinkled with those elements. There are nostalgic city pop songs with a crisp bass and horn section cutting through them, as well as songs with a stylish atmosphere of the new electric piano sound of neo-city pop, making for a wide range of genres.
I want you to experience the city pop created by "westman8", which uses AI to reinterpret old and new city pop, and puts it together in a selfish way. Also, as an experimental approach, I have included songs that show what happens when the same lyrics are used with different voices, arrangements, and melodies, so I hope you enjoy them.

westman8
westman8 is the solo project of yohei nishi, a musician with a rich history including his debut with the band "Black1Neck" and his current role as a composer for the pop band "balconny." Leveraging his solid technical skills as a guitarist and bassist, along with a melodic sense honed through years of experience, he began fully integrating music generative AI into his production in 2025. Under the theme of "AI x Human," he reconstructs AI-generated tracks with a distinct human touch. This approach creates a unique City Pop and Urban sound that, while digital, retains a sense of warmth, blending nostalgia with modern innovation. His background is equally unique; he is the 4th generation successor to a family business established over a century ago, successfully balancing creative pursuits with business management. His diverse activities also include serving as a radio personality for a local FM station. Starting in 2026, he plans to launch seminars focused on AI utilization, continuing to define and present the model for the next generation of musicians.
