"This song, - Life, Whatever - , was something I wrote on a late-night whim when I was 14. To be honest, I don't really remember what I was feeling at the time, but I think I just wanted to express something through music. I'd be happy if you feel something while listening." - wawa
A collaboration between high school artist wawa and musician/producer JP's PlayRoom, Life, Whatever (featuring wawa) by JP's PlayRoom. This marks wawa's first released track.
Based on a demo that wawa wrote and composed in her third year of junior high, the track was fully produced, performed, recorded, and mixed by JP's PlayRoom. The mastering was done at London's Metropolis Studio by Andy 'Hippy' Baldwin, known for his work with Oasis, Pet Shop Boys, and Blur. The artwork features wawa's own handwritten Japanese title, which translates to "Life, Whatever."
This song was arranged for Tokyo Music Tiger, a music production project by TV TOKYO Communications and TuneCore Japan, in response to a concept proposed by influencer Mumeixxx-a "transformation song" incorporating elements of K-POP, Western pop, and Vocaloid. The phrase "JIN-SEI-SOU-DAN" is repeated in the middle section, serving as a core hook, with transformative elements woven throughout.
Structured with dynamic shifts like K-POP, the song moves from hip-hop beats to grunge-inspired sounds, transitions into EDM, and then circles back to hip-hop. A simple chord progression and a deep low-end mix a Western pop aesthetic with an immersive chill sound design. Additionally, wawa's delicate yet powerful vocals are layered with pitch-shifting effects, aiming for a fusion of Vocaloid-style processing and raw human voice.
