After 4 and a half years since the release of the album [SUNAHAMA](2020.4.29 / rec,mix by Studio Zot @StudioZot ), we released a new song [I can see ah anything else]10/26, and this is the second one, entitled [Atcrorks].
This time, the second song, titled [Atcrorks], is also a finished version of a song that was distributed for free as a demo soundtrack at the [SUNAHAMA] reco, and the song itself was ready in 2020.
After seeing the live performance of the 2020 recording, an old friend, Xuji Wagatsuma (Gt, ex portraits) @wagatsuma_songs, joined the band, and PALESS continued as a four-piece band until the fall of 2022. During these two years, PALESS did not produce an album, as the band was still focused on forming a four-piece lineup.
However, many new songs were born during this period, and it was a time when we were able to discover a different side of PALESS. We are grateful to him for his special talent. Xu Xu, who is also a writer, is now based in Fukuoka, where he has launched his own literary web site [wagatsuma-songs.com](magazine-like liner notes), and is very active.
Shortly after that, one of the members had a child, and it became difficult to have long meetings with anyone outside the group for recording or other external purposes. After discussions among the three of us, we decided to create a space at home where we could record and see how far we could go with just the members in the house, and around the spring of 2023, we decided to save our live activities. Since then, we have been meeting almost every week at our home studio, and have been working on the production through trial and error little by little in the limited time we have.
As far as recording is concerned, we have reached an environment that we are satisfied with at this point. We also did the mixing and mastering in a way that we could do it all ourselves. We would be happy if you could listen to this song.
Formed in 2009 by Ryohei Otsuki, the project is based in Tokyo and is currently centered on composing and releasing music from a self-built studio. In its early phase, the work was characterized by compositions structured around patchwork-like soundscapes created using programs within keyboards. These were combined with elements such as delay and effects-generated noise, as well as unconventional materials pastoral in tone yet modest (or even everyday) and slightly dissonant such as the sound of bells attached to tree branches or plastic umbrellas and set in motion, layered with vocals. This resulted in a genreless sonic identity and somewhat experimental staging. Through the total use of these elements, the group pursued a reinterpretation of the world as they perceived it, as well as an expression of the deeper layers of their own inner experiences. In works since 2020, while maintaining their experimental approach, they have also embraced more conventionally structured compositions. Alongside their introspective expression, a sense of sound that opens outward toward the external world has begun to emerge, further expanding the range of their expression.
