Artist Profile

  • LEO SATO

Leo Sato Acoustic Architect / Composer Visiting Associate Professor, Osaka University of Arts Leo Sato is a Tokyo-based acoustic architect and composer working across film, fashion, and spatial design. He approaches sound not as decoration, but as a structural element that shapes time, space, and perception. Through a minimal and cinematic language, his work explores the relationship between sound, memory, and silence designing experiences that operate beyond conscious listening. He has collaborated with global brands including LOUIS VUITTON, ISSEY MIYAKE, YOHJI YAMAMOTO, Cartier, Shu Uemura, and General Electric, contributing to projects across moving image, fashion, and spatial environments. His work on projects related to Wim Wenders has been recognized at international festivals including Cannes Lions, D&AD Awards, ADC Awards, and New York Festivals. He also designed the sound for a public awareness campaign by the Japanese Olympic Committee (JOC) and Japanese Paralympic Committee (JPC), addressing online harassment. In this project, sound was conceived as a structure of time and perception, shaping the depth of the viewers experience. As a composer, he has created music for films including Cinema Angel (2015), Dancing in Her Dreams (2019), Haruka no Sue (2020), and Planet Love Song (2026). His work has been featured on international radio platforms such as dublab (Los Angeles) and Mutant Radio (Berlin), extending his practice into a global context. In parallel, he serves as a creative advisor for brands and institutions, working across branding, communication, and perception design. Satos practice is grounded in the idea that sound is not added, but is a structure that shapes perception and memory. By treating noise and silence as equal elements, he continues to explore new forms of temporal experience.
