Yoshino Mountain has seen cherry trees planted continuously since around the Heian period.
Particularly notable are areas where numerous cherry trees gather, each known as Hitomi Senbon (Thousand Trees at a Glance)
and named Shimo Senbon, Naka Senbon, Kami Senbon, and Oku Senbon.
The abundance of cherry trees on Yoshino Mountain stems from their designation as sacred trees of the Zao Gongen deity.
