Elephant Gym
Elephant Gym is a three-piece band from Taiwan that has toured extensively in Asia, Europe, and North America. Last Year, they performed at Fuji Rock Festival '22 in Japan, one of the greatest music festivals in the world, and their subsequent tour was a great success. They are now one of the most influential Asian indie bands.
This year marks the 10th anniversary of the release of their debut EP "BALANCE," and Elephant Gym will go on a world tour from the end of 2023 to 2024 with a new album called, "WORLD". Shows in 40 cities of 18 countries are announced in the 1st tour schedule, and more to come. The title "WORLD" indicates not only that the band has gone global, but also that it has transcended music genres and boundaries. It expresses the band's desire to transcend the boundaries and limitations of borders, races, nationalities, gender, and music genres.
In the album, "Feather" features TENDRE from Japan and Whyte from Taiwan, an R&B singer who has emerged in recent years, and each artist adds a completely different melody and lyrics to Elephant Gym's instrumental music.
The double-bass piece "Name" features Seiji Kameda, bassist of Tokyo Incidents who has greatly influenced the members of Elephant Gym musically. "Happy Prince" features YILE LIN, one of Taiwan's leading singer-songwriters; and Indian-Canadian Shashaa Tirupati sings in Hindi lyrics on "Jhalleyaa" which adds completely fresh and new vibes to Elephant Gym's music.
The album also features three re-recorded orchestral arrangements of the band's best-known songs with a brass band, KCWO from Elephant Gym's hometown of Kaohsiung, Taiwan. Elephant Gym has collaborated and performed with the brass band and musical theater company in recent years, and these new versions expresses the evolution of Elephant Gym musically making it a truly 10th anniversary album.
