Composer Naoki Nakashima will release his debut single, "Mother Earth."
The origins of this piece trace back to 2012, when Nakashima - then a first-year high school student - visited the coastal regions of Tohoku, which still bore the scars of the tsunami, with his father. There, he filmed a documentary capturing the aftermath of the Great East Japan Earthquake. Inspired by the people he met, the landscapes he saw, and the emotions he experienced, he composed the piece in 2013. Since then, as part of the "Mother Earth Project (MEP)," an initiative he leads, Nakashima has performed it across Japan for over a decade.
"I hope this piece, filled with the thoughts and emotions of many, will reach as many people as possible - sometimes offering quiet comfort, and at other times, giving them a gentle push forward," Nakashima shares.
Recorded in 2017 at the studio of Tokyo University of the Arts, with around 50 musicians from various music universities gathering for the session.
