After feeling exhausted from being in the city, I took a trip to Shizuoka and stayed there overnight. I was drinking at an Izakaya at around 10. A few minutes later, a lady, around the same age as me, came in and sat on the edge of the counter. I was minding my own business at first, but after a few drinks, she started asking me questions about where I'm from and what I do for a living. Our conversation had no substance, but something about it gave me comfort. Afterwards, we wandered around town, doing nothing but talk about whatever came to our minds. Later, we went our separate ways, realising I never got her name as I arrived back in my hotel.

On the train ride back, the whole interaction slightly reminded me of the book, "The Dancing Girl of Izu" by Yasunari Kawabata. An interaction that is both romantic and melancholic, this beat is a short story that replicates those colors and emotions in the only way I can express them.

Artist Profile

  • Nine Tales

Nine Tales is a beatmaker from Tokyo, Japan, who expresses deep human instincts and emotions through a coarse ambiance, akin to the Japanese concept of Wabi-Sabi. His love for old hardware samplers creates a rough yet soothing texture to his beats that are reminiscent of the 90s-a somewhat lost art in today's digital world. This specific warmth brings listeners back to their essence and pure self. Laugh, dance, or cry; all emotions are welcome here.
