Lyric

You arrive with the last train humming

Silk scarf folded in your hand

The bartender counts the glasses

While the piano makes its plans

You say the room feels smaller

Since the winter took its turn

I pour the pearly water

Watch the candle lean and burn

Stay until the chairs go upside down

Let the quiet wear its evening gown

Meet me where the blue room opens

Where the velvet curtains sway

I’ll keep one slow hour unbroken

And give your tired heart a place to stay

Meet me where the blue room opens

No need to explain

Your name sounds softer in the half-lit corner

Than it ever did in the day

A silver ring taps twice softly

Against a porcelain cup

You laugh at your own confession

Then you look away and look up

Outside, the doorman’s umbrella

Catches drops from the awning seam

Inside, your shoulder finds mine

Like a detail from a dream

Stay until the chairs go upside down

Let the quiet wear its evening gown

Meet me where the blue room opens

Where the velvet curtains sway

I’ll keep one slow hour unbroken

And give your tired heart a place to stay

Meet me where the blue room opens

No need to explain

Your name sounds softer in the half-lit corner

Than it ever did in the day

If tomorrow asks what happened

We can call it passing rain

But your hand is warm beside me

And I don’t want to rush the change

Meet me where the blue room opens

Where the velvet curtains sway

I’ll keep one slow hour unbroken

And give your tired heart a place to stay

Meet me where the blue room opens

Let the morning wait

Your name sounds softer in the half-lit corner

And I want to hear it again

One more glass, one more story

Before the room turns gold

Stay a little longer with me

Before the night lets go
