Artist Profile

  • mayu

Based in Tokyo, mayu is a singer-songwriter and guitarist who weaves her music like a diary, spinning together guitar phrases and lyrics born from the moments of her daily life. Her signature alternative sound seamlessly traverses genres, from pop and indie rock to acid folk. Since April 2023, she has been collaborating with Naoto Sekijima (bassist of the progressive soul band oon), who produced her singles "Musaboru / Colorful." This was followed by the consecutive releases of "Warera wa" in September and "waltz" in October of the same year. These tracks caught the attention of artists and influencers on social media, earning her a dedicated following among trend-conscious listeners. In April 2024, mayu intensified her live performances by transitioning into a band format. Alongside Sekijima, she added drummer Yoshiya Kishida (known for his work with Shugo Tokumaru and others) to the lineup for her self-curated events. This band-centric approach led to the release of the single "Outouseyo" (Over to You) in December 2024, a track born directly from their collaborative jam sessions. Her momentum continues to grow internationally, with her first performance in South Korea held in December 2025. Fans can look forward to the release of her first full-length album scheduled for autumn 2026.
