January 2026, Kujukuri Beach, Chiba Prefecture. On a cold winter night, stepping outside a rustic farmhouse inn revealed a sky full of stars - a sight impossible to find in Tokyo. Standing alone on the shore with nothing but the sound of waves, gazing up at an endless canopy of starlight stretching above the unbroken horizon - that moment of stillness became the origin of this piece.
"Kan Subaru" is a Japanese seasonal word for the Pleiades star cluster shining in the winter sky. Composed in C-sharp minor for its warm, enveloping quality, the music weaves together a sense of grandeur and gentle melancholy, translating the memory of a starlit night that moved the composer to tears into sound.
The third work in artist Nisei Kimura's "Sound Journey Through 47 Prefectures" project, in which real sounds and experiences from each region of Japan are transformed into music. A prayer-like offering to the night sky of Chiba.
