Between the Seconds

Valerie Enfield

Static on the line tonight

Something in the room feels slow

Your shadow on the kitchen wall

Moves where the lights don’t go

I was saying something soft

But the words fell out of time

Like a cassette left in the sun

Warping every line

And you laugh a little low

Like you already know

This moment’s gonna drift away

Headlights sliding down the street

Silver through the blinds

Every second bends a bit

Slipping through my mind

Your voice is in the hallway now

Half a step behind

Like a song i almost learned

But never kept in time

And you say it’s getting late

But the night won’t close the gate

We’re floating somewhere in between

Soft electric in the air

Neon turning blue

I could stay inside this sound

If it stayed with you

But the tape begins to slow

And the room lets go

Of everything we never said

    Between the Seconds

    Valerie Enfield

"New Topography" is a poetic, visually evocative track that quietly captures everyday moments through the lens of a camera. Bathed in soft light and subtle sounds, it delicately depicts small scenes on street corners and hillsides. Weaving together memory and the passage of time, it reflects the specialness hidden within daily life in an ambient pop style.
The track was inspired by the photographic movement "New Topographics."
In addition to the title track, the release includes four pieces:
"That Must Be an Angel," portraying nameless, fleeting miracles in everyday life,
an avant-folk version of "
The sound of the street // Just as you are,"
and "Between the Seconds," a lo-fi chillhop track where slow, cassette-like distortions, along with subtle movements of light and voice, bring out the tenderness and poignancy of each moment.
