No matter how beautifully I dress it up

The surface just floats, shallow and corrupt

If you strip it all away from me

Only junk remains for you to see

Once I start to worry about the space around

The words I need can no longer be found

Even to express myself at all

I have no means, I’m hitting a wall

Before I know it, I’m swallowed whole

By a whirlpool of thoughts that take their toll

To make logical sense of it, bit by bit

There seems to be too much waste in it

Building it up, then tearing it down

Connecting the lines, then erasing the town

Repeating it over and over again

Until it’s finished, distorted and thin

How should I describe what I’ve made?

This work, still nameless, starting to fade

Even scenes I’ve drawn a thousand times

I can’t remember clearly, between the lines

I can’t express them, so I grope around

Through faint memories where no light is found

A task that never seems to reach its end

The goal of the ideal I intend

Is still so far away, out of my sight

So I’ll keep revising, night after night

Consciousness starting to drift and diverge

A dramatized view begins to emerge

Leaving behind a work that’s not through

Still unpainted on the canvas, waiting for you

Cutting and pasting, then throwing away

Drawing it out, then forgetting the day

Losing it all, piece by piece

Without knowing why the meanings cease

To put this into words, I fear

I still lack the strength to make it clear

I still can’t touch the essence of the soul

Just writing down feelings, out of control

Searching for a meaning I can’t yet hold

In the story that remains untold

Building it up, then tearing it down

Connecting the lines, then erasing the town

Repeating it over and over again

Until it’s finished, distorted and thin

Stripping it off, then layering more

Breaking it down, then lining the floor

Adding onto it, bit by bit

Becoming stagnant, with no way out of it

How should I describe what I’ve felt?

Still nameless, even now

This feeling in my heart
