Mirror of the Real Me

Tera Kira

Outside the window, passing by

Two shadows with fingers interlaced, so shy

A profile laughing without a sound

Why does it stay in my heart, so profound?

To say "I’m jealous" wouldn't be enough

To describe this feeling, so strange and rough

My gaze has nowhere to go today

Melting into the city, fading away

"I’m fine just as I am"

I told myself again, like a hollow dam

But still, somewhere deep inside

Something is swaying, with nowhere to hide

Inside the night, about to break

I put on a face, for everyone's sake

It feels like everyone but me

Is moving forward, while I can't be free

Inside this room where nothing stays

I’m crying out in these lonely days

Hiding my true self, out of sight

So no one can hear me through the night

Flowing across the glowing screen

Familiar colors and lines I’ve seen

As long as I stay right here, you see

I don't have to become "anything" for me

"I want to change"—I left those words behind

Over and over, forgotten in my mind

I thought I was walking all this time

But I’m nowhere near the end of the climb

The longer I live, the more I find

I start to dislike the "me" in my mind

Even the reason why I want to be better

Has vanished like ink in an unwritten letter

Inside the night, out of my reach

Searching for a reason that I can't teach

The thing that never changed at all

Wasn't the world, but me, standing small

"It’s not a mistake"

"It’s just different, for your sake"

I just wanted someone

To say those words to me

Then suddenly one day

The eyes in the mirror had something to say

Without even asking, they let it fall

A truth that echoed through the hall

Ah, what have I done?

Through all these days under the sun

It’s not that I was running away

And yet

Even if I’m just a little late

I’ll take myself toward my own fate

I don't have to mimic anyone's way

Because I am right here, today

To this "today" with no right answer in sight

I don't have to conform to make it right

I am who I am

And that is enough for me
