Kenji Jammer is the solo project of Kenji Suzuki - a Tokyo-born, London-based guitarist who has served as a member of the legendary British soul group Simply Red since 1998. Originally recorded entirely at home and released in 2001, Hula Hula Dance was the first chapter in what would become an ongoing series now stretching to eleven volumes. To mark its 25th anniversary, the album has been remastered and expanded with two previously unreleased tracks for a worldwide release in 2026.
Drifting effortlessly between chilled Lofi Hawaiian grooves, American roots music, classic 1970s Jamaican dub, and cinematic instrumentals that evoke vintage film scores, Hula Hula Dance is a deeply personal album held together by the quiet confidence of a world-class guitarist with a traveller's soul. The expanded edition adds "Decision" - featuring a vintage Dobro lap steel guitar once owned by country music legend Buddy Emmons - and the breezy driving instrumental "Dream Rider," both previously unheard until now. Twenty-five years on, this album sounds not just timeless, but ahead of its time.
