Motet Duke

Tarewokamo Shiruhitonisen

Takasagono Matsumomukashino Tomonaranakuni

(Whom should I seek to know as a friend?)

(The pines of Takasago, no longer my old friend.)

The winds are colder, skies no longer clear

Memories fading, they all disappear

What we once had, now feels so far

Like whispers lost, beneath the stars

Tarewokamo Shiruhitonisen

Takasagono Matsumomukashino Tomonaranakuni

Who’s left to stand by my side

When even the pines have changed their stride?

Ties we shared, no longer true

The past has slipped, with skies so blue

Echoes of laughter, now just a dream

The faces change, or so it seems

Where do I turn, when days grow dark?

The spark we had has lost its mark

Tarewokamo Shiruhitonisen

Takasagono Matsumomukashino Tomonaranakuni

Who’s left to stand by my side

When even the pines have changed their stride?

Ties we shared, no longer true

The past has slipped, with skies so blue

Time moves on, the leaves will fall

I reach for shadows, but lose them all

The wind that carries, takes them away

But I still hope for brighter days

Tarewokamo Shiruhitonisen

Takasagono Matsumomukashino Tomonaranakuni

Who’s left to stand by my side

When even the pines have changed their stride?

Ties we shared, no longer true

The past has slipped, with skies so blue

Takasago’s pines may stand so tall

But friendships fade, and shadows fall

I walk alone beneath the sky

Still seeking answers to my why
