In this piece, a filter using a distortion circuit was developed. The filter type of the synthesizer system was increased, and an experimental sound was generated. The circuit of this filter consists of Distortion Circuit 1, an adder, inverting amplifier, and feedback circuit with a series connection. An input signal is input into Distortion Circuit 1. The feedback circuit connects a high-pass filter (HPF), a voltage-control circuit, and Distortion Circuit 2 in series. The input signal of a high-pass filter (HPF) is the output signal of an inverting amplifier. The HPF is a first-order HPF whose timbre can be changed. The output signal of Distortion Circuit 2 is then input into an adder. The structures of Distortion Circuits 1 and 2 differ. The voltage control circuit controls the oscillation of this filter by inputting a control signal output from a universal serial bus (USB) device. Furthermore, a variable resistor controls the output voltage of the HPF. The input signal of this filter is the output signal of the whitening filter, whose input signal in turn is the pulse-width modulation signal output from the USB device. It is input via a line selector and a buffer circuit, and the output signal of this filter is the output signal of the inverting amplifier. Its timbre is created by distorting a random signal and an oscillating sound and adding the two signals. Hard timbres have an impact on the listener. In the fourth track of this work, the output signal of this filter is mixed with the output signal of the multiplier of the multiple synthesizer in a mixer, giving the tone a hard timbre.

Artist Profile

  • Dissecting Table

Ichiro Tsuji was born in 1966. He started working on noise/industrial music for his band named "Dissecting Table" in Tokyo in 1986. He returned to his hometown of Hiroshima in 1998, and has been pursuing musical activities ever since. His records and compact disks have been released under the independent label of the UPD organization, and under labels in Europe and the United States. In the first and middle stage of his career he controlled the synthesizer and sampler by the sequencer, but since 2012, the works have been produced by controlling PWM signals output from a USB device on a computer. Lately the work is being made by developing an original synthesizer system.
