Marlowe Kay
Marlowe Kay has been making music on the theme of "hometown, life and death. In addition to these themes, the new album "neverland" also reveals the theme of "children and adults".
The artwork for the single released prior to the album features a picture he drew when he was a child, and the songs on the album also have content related to his childhood.
His previous works have also been based on the theme of "children. In his previous work, "umijii yamabaa," he used pictures of his daughter's childhood for the artwork, and he recorded her speaking voice for the song "Drama of Drifting".
This time, however, he focuses even more on his own childhood, making it a more personal work than the previous album.
"City and Tuday" and "Hippopotamus Tail" are songs about his childhood. "You Can Fly!" and "Neverland," which are depicted in contrast, show the emptiness of becoming an adult.
The rhythm section is strong in "Pain Together" and "I'm Home" which depict the strength to face and live in the adult life.
The songs "Antagata Dokosa" and "Yoheho" are arranged from children's songs and folk songs from his hometown Kumamoto, and "Laughed" depicts a scene in which he communicates with his grandmother, whom he could not see because of the Corona disaster, showing his feelings for his hometown.
In terms of sound, throughout the entire album, the rhythm section is made up of a self-made drum kit of pails and empty cans, which he recorded himself, successfully creating a more organic groove and dynamics.
The guitars played are a Tokai Les Paul and a Martin Dreadnought Junior. The songs "Donkey Ears" and "Dive to Milk!" with their shining guitar solos, and "Divine Eels," which pursues sonic experimentation with effectors, are all worth listening to.
The bass on most of the songs is played by a long-time friend, musician chickii, whose swirling fuzz bass can be heard on "Papa's Les Paul" and "Lion's Mane".
This is an album for "adults" like "children" made by a 40 year old man. No matter how old I get, I want to continue doing what I love and want to do with the imagination and creativity of a child.

Whenever I want to meet something I already know, I will come back here again. I will find what I have lost-- Based in Okinawa, Japan. Recorded and produced with an Eleaco, some effectors, and a smartphone.
