Took a quiet drive this morning
Just the ocean and the breeze
Stopped beside a little café
For a coffee by the sea
Took a photo of my breakfast
Posted it with just a smile
"Best little meal I've had in ages"
Three small likes after a while
One was from an old friend
One I'm not quite sure about
And one, I have to tell you
Well... I probably helped it out
I'm not trying to show off
I'm not asking for a crowd
I just have a little story
Somebody hear me out
Somebody hear me out
It's really nothing big or grand
Maybe that little bowl of seafood
Was the finest in the land
Maybe it was just the sunshine
Maybe just a cup of coffee
Sometimes all it takes is something small
To make an afternoon feel lovely
I used to have someone beside me
To tell these little stories to
Now I tell them to my phone
And somehow... that will do
At noon I found a trendy place
With a line around the block
I ordered the biggest bowl of ramen
Just to see what I had got
Took a picture, sent it out
"Way too much!" I wrote with a grin
I couldn't finish half the bowl
But tomorrow I'll try again
The waiter smiled and asked me
"Was everything alright?"
I said, "Oh yes, it was delicious"
Then went home before the night
It's not a grand adventure
It's not a story for the news
But when you've got a quiet afternoon
You take what you can use
Somebody hear me out
It's really nothing big or grand
Maybe ramen beats the udon
Maybe soba was the better plan
Maybe none of that matters
Maybe that's the point somehow
A little story, a little smile
A little someone listening now
As long as I have something to say
I guess I'm doing pretty well
Even if I'm talking to my phone
There's still a story I can tell
When the working days were over
I thought I'd finally take it slow
Funny how a quiet morning
Can make the hours move so slow
No boss calling
No train to catch
No reason to hurry anymore
So I watch the little waves roll in
And check my phone once more
Maybe that's the funny thing
About getting older day by day
You don't need a room full of people
Just somebody who might stay
Somebody hear me out
It's really nothing big or grand
I don't need a standing ovation
I don't need a helping hand
Just a little warmth
To brighten up the day
A little sign that someone out there
Stopped by along the way
So I'll keep posting every afternoon
A picture, a thought, a view
Maybe someone will leave a little heart
Maybe someone will say, "Me too"
The ocean keeps on moving
The coffee's getting cold
I check my phone one more time
One little like
Maybe two
Even just one little like
Means the world to me
