【Before the Fireworks Festival Begins】


For the last sweet memory of summer days,
I dreamed of watching fireworks through your gaze
The frantic rush that filled my every night
Now burns in my heart like sparks of colored light
Etched in my mind so vivid, bold, and bright


It was such a cliché, love at first sight,
Yet I froze whenever you came into sight
The very first time my whole heart slipped away,
My thoughts turned blank, all colors washed to gray
But somehow you alone stayed crystal clear,
A strange and mystic feeling drawing near

I paced in circles, wondering what to do,

One day I sank in hopelessness and doubt,
Then suddenly I heard your voice ring out
You came to bring the handkerchief I dropped,
My mind went blank, completely stunned and stopped
And right after, my face burned crimson red,
Not only from the foolish things I said


To make the most of that miraculous chance,
I talked with you as much as I could manage
I used to think this reckless kind of fire
Belonged in fiction fueled by wild desire
But love is stranger than a novel’s page,
I laughed at how consumed I’d grown that day


The fireworks festival is drawing near,
And somehow I secured a promise dear
To go together side by side with you,
I pinched my cheeks to check if this was true
This pounding heart affected every day,
Like flowerbeds in vibrant bright array
My world turned dazzling in every way
As if new wings had carried me away

Just a little more until the night arrives,
The long-awaited day has come alive
I fixed my hair and clothes obsessively,
Trying hard to calm my rising energy
I slapped my cheeks to brace myself somehow,
Then headed for the place we promised now
