Amatsu Norito

"Amatsu Norito" is an ancient Shinto prayer of purification from Japan.
It is traditionally associated with the myth of Izanagi-no-Mikoto's ritual cleansing, and has been recited as a prayer to purify impurities, mistakes, and inner disharmony, allowing us to return to our original clarity.
This song was born in June 2021, when I was given the opportunity to compose music for sacred Japanese prayers.
The first prayer I received was Amatsu Norito.
On my way home, the melody came to me in the car, as if it had already existed somewhere within. I went straight to the piano, and the music began to flow. The process of composing and recording felt like a door opening to an inner world of sacred presence.
Amatsu Norito is also known as a prayer of misogi-harai - purification and cleansing.
For me, the creation of this song itself was a form of purification.
Through sound, voice, and kotodama - the spiritual power of words - I hope to pass on the ancient prayers of Japan in a way that can reach people across cultures.
