Shimanukokoro

Mina Asato

"Mensore"
Okinawa always welcomes us like a mother, with its beautiful nature and warm-hearted people. At the same time, it is a place that continues to carry the weight of "environmental pollution" and the "sorrow and suffering of the Battle of Okinawa." This song was created with a strong determination that we, living in this era together with our children, must continue to sing and pass down these stories.

It also sings about the "environmental pollution" and the "scars left by war and the atomic bomb" in Japan as an island nation.

For the jacket photo, Mina Asato herself photographed the rooftop of the Sakima Art Museum in Ginowan City, Okinawa. The museum was built on land passed down for generations by director Michio Sakima. The rooftop staircase is composed of 6 steps in the front and 23 steps in the back, symbolizing June 23, Okinawa's Memorial Day. The building, designed by Okinawan architect Koichi Makishi, features an exposed concrete structure uniquely aligned so that on June 23-the day of remembrance-the setting sun shines directly through the top floor window.

From this place that symbolizes peace-"Sakima Art Museum," "Okinawa," and "Japan"-the song carries the wish to connect to a "space for reflection" and the "origin of praying for peace."

Through the song "Furusato nu Kokoro" (Heart of the Hometown), we hope to create for everyone a time of reflection and a return to the origin of wishing for peace. We also hope that as listeners connect it with their own "hometowns," the song will take root in each person's life and everyday experiences-something that we, together with our children, can continue to pass down to future generations.

Artist Profile

  • Mina Asato

Born in Nagasaki and raised in Okinawa and Fukuoka, Mina Asato is a third-generation atomic bomb survivor who carries the spirit of Okinawas message: Instruments, not weapons. From an early age, she loved singing at home, but her dream shifted when she was profoundly inspired by watching Michael Jacksons live performance on TV, which led her to pursue dance. At the age of 12, she began training under the guidance of GO GO BROTHERS, learning Boogaloo Style, Funk, Soul, and Lock, and throughout her middle and high school years, she immersed herself in dance. At 17, she competed in the BLUE SPRING dance contest and won the Grand Prix on the final stage at Zepp Fukuoka. After graduation, she entered university, where she led the dance club as its president while also working as a freelance dancer. She was selected as a showcase member under the supervision of Saidah & Marc, world-renowned choreographers who have toured with artists such as Beyonce, Ciara, Usher, and Drake. She also supported various artists, including HKT48, as both a choreographer and backup dancer. In 2016, seeking further growth and broader opportunities, she moved to Tokyo and began performing as the artist m!epom. On September 22, 2017, she released her first mini album LIFE OF ART ~JUST THE WAY YOU ARE, which sold out all 1000 copies immediately. In 2018, she launched a project themed around COLOR, inspired by the global Olympic spirit, releasing a digital single every month from January to May. On January 18, she changed her artist name to mëme. That same year, she was appointed the first ambassador of OTONOVA, a nationwide competition to determine the No.1 representative artist from live music venues. On June 2, at the OTONOVA 2018 Grand Prix Final held at EX Theater Roppongi, where both major and independent artists competed, she won the very first Grand Prix out of 1700 groups. Starting in July, she joined a six-city nationwide tour alongside LEO, CIMBA, and Lugz&Jera. In September and October, she successfully completed her first solo one-man tour, ART for WORLD, in Tokyo, Nagoya, and Osaka. She also launched her own cutting-edge artist event series M.A.R.T, which culminated in a large-scale showcase at Zepp DiverCity in November 2018. On June 1, 2019, she took on the name Mina Asato, beginning a new chapter as a singer devoted to delivering words and feelings that resonate with peoples lives. From July that year, she held monthly mini one-man lives limited to 200 people, all of which were highly successful. In August, she released her first mini album Are you.., Am i.., along with the digital single Kaze to Waltz wo (Dancing with the Wind). On May 10, 2020, Mothers Day, she released her first single as Mina Asato, need you -Are you.., Am i..-, nationwide at TOWER RECORDS. On August 10 of the same year, together with Akihiro Yokogi and Masaki Shiota, both solo artists in their own right, she formed a dance-chorus group consisting of three vocalists and one dancer. On August 26, they released their debut digital single yabou, followed by a double A-side single yabou / Watashi Dake no Sekai THE END of the world on September 23, again nationwide at TOWER RECORDS. Their debut live performance on December 12 was a resounding success. In 2021, the group prepared for the release of their very first mini album, marking yet another milestone in Mina Asatos evolving artistic journey.
