cambelle is an indie-pop band based in Tokyo.
Originally active under the name Keiichi & Coconut Groove, the group released an album in 2023 and quickly drew attention as a "Shibuya-kei for the streaming generation," sharing stages with artists such as Hideki Kaji. In 2025, reflecting a shift in their musical direction, they adopted their new name cambelle. Ahead of their debut release, the band has been performing at numerous events centered around live venues in Shimokitazawa.

Their first full-length album, "Magic Moments," will be released digitally on Wednesday, November 19.
Leading up to the release, the album's tracks have been issued one by one as singles since Wednesday, October 1.

Drawing influence from the rock and pop of the 1960s-70s-artists like Todd Rundgren and Brian Wilson-while resonating with contemporary retro-soul and indie-pop acts such as Clairo and Alice Phoebe Lou, cambelle creates a sound that bridges eras. Their unabashed admiration for the great music of the 20th century also recalls the sensibilities of Japanese groups like Lamp and KIRINJI.

Using an array of vintage synthesizers-including the DX7 and Moog-the band's music arises from the fusion of three contrasting strengths:
a relentless pursuit of beautiful melody, a producer's associative imagination grounded in vast listening experience, and jazz-rooted arrangement that remains playful and free-spirited.

In a rarity for Japanese indie bands, cambelle invited many musicians to join the recording process. This collaborative spirit-pop music created through the hands of a wide community-evokes the golden era of A&M Records, a label known for birthing countless classics.

The CD edition will also feature a special liner-note conversation with renowned curator Toru Hashimoto (SUBURBIA).

Artist Profile

  • cambelle

Formed in 2023, cambelle brings together Keichi Kumagai (Vo, Gt, Pf, Vn) from Kumamoto, Ryo Ichihara (Production, Programming) from Tokyo, and Haruka Kawakami (Key, Vo, Tp) from Ishikawa. Rooted in a deep love for 60s pop and 70s soul, their sound draws freely from a wide range of influences AOR, bossa nova, new age, and beyond bridging musical eras and genres with a quiet confidence. The result is a new kind of indie pop: music that feels like it belongs nowhere in particular, yet somehow evokes a sense of somewhere deeply familiar. It hums gently in the in-between spaces of everyday life. Even before releasing their debut, cambelle has been actively performing live, steadily building a presence in Tokyo indie scene and beyond.
