Ask me
How I want to be referred
Miss, misses, ma'am, or bitch
Whatever you might say, it is most likely female and you mean well
Though I am always impressed by the way you so easily assume
How I like to be called
For it may be none of your familiar words
So ask me
And I will tell you what my real title is
Ask me
How I want to be loved
Because it is so easy for all of us
To love a new love
Within a mold from our past
As if from that a better love would come out this time
Though we are even not sure if I will fit in
So ask me
And I will let you examine the exact shape of my love
Ask me
How many nights I spend restless
For fear I may never see a daybreak again
Ask me
And I will tell you how much courage I secretly carry on these shoulders
Ask me
How I laid myself on the operation table that day
To lose a piece of my body
To win this battle
Ask me
Who I am
How I am
What I meant to be
Instead of assuming
How I should be feeling, suffering, or behaving
Why don’t you ask me
And I will tell you all of it
Looking in your eyes
Without shame
Without slight hesitation
So Ask me
