[scat]

Scat is a singing method mainly used in jazz, improvising (ad-lib) singing meaningless sounds (such as "dabadaba", "dubidubi", "payapaya") to the melody. The purpose of this singing method is to express the voice as an instrument rather than a 'song'.

Jazz musician Louis Armstrong is known as a leading figure. It is said that this singing method originated when the staff forgot the lyrics during the recording and sang with random words and the NG take was received by the staff and used as it was.

Initially, it was not well known in Japan except for jazz lovers, but since the late 1960s, it has been used in many TV dramas (Nippon TV "11PM" theme song by Kayo Iju and others, Nescafe Gold Blend CM song "Awakening - Theme of Nescafe Gold Blend", "Wandaba" frequently used in the "Ultra Series", etc.), were recognized by the general public.
