No matter what I did, no matter what I tried…
I never got any praise.
It’s always been that way.

No matter what I did or tried, I never got any praise.
I just got scolded all the time.
I guess that was because I was a bit of a weirdo, but
believe it or not, even after I got into the top university in Japan, I still didn’t get any praise.
If anything, they just ignored me. They got bored of me. They told me to cherish my hometown.
But I left anyway.
I went through a lot. Good things and bad.
In the end, I ended up coming back home.
Back home, I was treated like a troublemaker, but lately I’ve gotten used to it a bit.
I realized that, rather than going to college—which my dad never praised me for—
what’s truly important is cherishing my family
and cherishing the community around me.
That’s what makes me happier.
Now that I’ve been able to pick up my hobbies again,
I’ve been smiling a little more.

The things that really matter aren’t actually anything that grand.
Sure, titles matter.
I use mine to protect what’s important to me.
But what’s truly important…
It’s family, after all.

You’re free to pretend you know everything, but it’s not really freedom.
Humans have eyes and ears.
When you’re all alone and can’t see or hear anything…
How do you feel when there’s no one around?
I want you to take about 10 minutes a day to imagine that.

My dad used to say that rather than going to a prestigious school—which he never praised me for—
what matters is cherishing your family
and caring for the community around you.
I’ve come to realize that’s the path to true happiness.
Now that I’ve been able to pick up my hobbies again,
I find myself smiling a little more.

The things that really matter aren’t actually anything that grand.
Titles are just a shield.
What’s inside is family.
…And that’s all that matters.
