We welcomed Momo, a rescued pug and former breeding dog, into our family. She was rescued from a large-scale breeder collapse in Okinawa, Japan.
Momo spent her life in unimaginable conditions. Forced into breeding from the time she was still little more than a puppy herself, she gave birth to litter after litter in an environment no animal should ever have to endure. The rescue operation was so significant that it was featured on national television programs in Japan.
The hardships Momo experienced have left deep marks on both her personality and her health. Even so, as we live together day by day, we feel that she is slowly beginning to discover the simple joys that many family dogs take for granted love, safety, trust, and a place where she belongs.
We do not even know her exact age. Because she was repeatedly bred from such a young age and small body, we still do not know what long-term health issues she may carry. We do not know how many years we will have together. But no matter how much time we are given, our wish is simple: that she can live the rest of her life surrounded by happiness and love as a member of our family.
We are told that animals like Momo represent only the tip of the iceberg. Countless dogs continue to suffer in cruel puppy mills where they are treated as breeding machines and forced to produce litter after litter in terrible conditions.
We wrote this song in the hope that more people will become aware of this reality and help give these animals a chance at the life they deserve.
For Momo, and for every dog still waiting to find their forever home.
