"Love and Loss, Death and Mystery" - The Otals deliver their ambitious second full-length album, packed with 17 tracks of bold volume.
Effortlessly shifting between wall-of-sound distortion and bell-like clean guitar tones, the album anchors itself in alternative rock while embracing elements of electro and dance music. These diverse tracks are unified by the distinctive male-female vocal harmonies of Fax Marina and rhythmically pop-driven melodies that defy genre conventions - a hallmark of The Otals' evolving sound.
Titled "The Entirely Imperfect Kingdom of Summer", the album draws heavy inspiration from juvenile literature. Like a collection of short stories, it spans from vividly detailed modern-day dramas - capturing the fleeting moments of everyday life in contrast to ideas of "eternity and the instant" - to fantastical tales featuring vampires, wizards, and ghosts. While built on bright, poppy melodies and casually spoken lyrics, the songs are laced with subtle themes of death and loss, casting complex emotional shadows throughout.
Described by the band as "a total war effort that brings together all our strengths," the album has been secretly in the works for over two years, prepared solely to capture this one summer. With this ambitious and definitive release, The Otals aim to set a new benchmark in their musical journey.
