Toward Making the Wako a Traditional Instrument of the Future Based in Japan, Satochiki performs widely across regions including Taiwan and the United States. After encountering the traditional Asian instrument, the Erhu, Satochiki began a career as a singer-songwriter and performer. During this journey, a desire emerged to pursue a sound that felt more deeply personal, leading to the start of instrument development. Together with Japanese instrument maker Kazuhiro Nishino, several years were spent creating an original instrument called the Wako, crafted from Japanese materials such as cedar, keyaki (zelkova), and washi paper. In 2025, Satochiki held a solo concert at ACROS Fukuoka Symphony Hall, a venue with 1,800 seats, achieving a sold-out performance. In 2026, the first Wako European Tour is scheduled. Looking ahead, Satochiki is actively performing both in Japan and internationally with the goal of presenting a solo concert at Carnegie Hall in New York in 2027.
