"Pun Pin" The traditional rhythm of Ayacucho, Peru, is reborn with a new sound after eight years.
Pun Pin is a vibrant carnival rhythm originating from Víctor Fajardo in the Ayacucho region of Peru.
In February during the 1980s, Irma first heard this bright, powerful sound inside a truck traveling from her native village to Lima. A cassette tape played by a fellow passenger to hearten the travelers during their long journey left an indelible mark on her soul. Once a music exclusive to rural villages, Pun Pin is now cherished and sung by descendants of the Víctor Fajardo people in major cities like Lima, keeping their heritage alive.
Eight years have passed since the first recording in 2017. In the mystical atmosphere of Chichibu, Japan far removed from Ayacucho this music has undergone a unique evolution.
This new recording features long-time collaborator Haruka Shimizu on guitar, joined by Sayaka Shimizu on synthesizer, adding a new dimension to the sound.
