This is the 8th Hawaiian recording by Sandii, who is not only a worldwide singer but also an instructor and inheritor of the Hula culture. She has chosen Hawaiian traditional songs based on the theme of smiles, and delivers them with a smooth and supple tropical sentiment. It also includes covers of "Shimauta" original by The Boom, and Chaplin's "Smile".
Sandii, a pioneering female vocalist who continues to create various genres of music, expresses the motif of 'Smile' as an evangelist of Hawaii's aloha spirit. The groove that only a live studio recording in Hawaii can create miracles and recreate real Hawaiian music!
Sandii lived in Hawaii during her late teens and most of her 20s. In that period, she sang in clubs and studied hula with Aunty Bella Richards of Kailua. She also met and bonded with Pattye Kealohalani Wright, who later became a Kumu Hula through Aunty Lani Kalama (1990). Sandii has the various, many different musical phases of her recording career. She has recorded as Sandi Ai, Sandy Hohn, Sandii & the Sunsetz, and now as Sandii. Since 1996, her albums have been Hawaiian or Polynesian-theme.
