Must not be repeated

The atomic bombs dropped on Hiroshima and Nagasaki devastated the cities with intense heat rays, blast waves, and radiation, robbing the people living there of their daily lives and their futures. Countless precious lives were lost-not only immediately after the bombings but also among those who later succumbed to radiation-related illnesses and other aftereffects. We must not forget. We must not let these events be forgotten. For if memories fade, humanity risks repeating the same mistakes. We cannot change the past, but we can pass those memories on to the future. It is my hope that this serves as an opportunity to reflect on the history of the atomic bombings, nuclear weapons, and war, and to carry forward the wish for peace.
