In my apartment with thin walls I can hear sounds from the room next door. The time you wake up your footsteps coming home cooking sounds shower water. I do not know your face but somehow I know your daily rhythm. On lonely nights just knowing someone is on the other side of the wall gave me comfort. One day our eyes met in the elevator and you nodded at me. You looked kinder than I imagined. Once I saw your face even the sounds through the wall felt warmer. I do not know if this is love yet. I just feel safe knowing you are next door. I do not know your name and we have never spoken but somehow you are on my mind. When I hear your door I think oh you are home and I feel relieved without meaning to. You on the other side of this one wall. I hope someday we can talk. Just knowing you are living next door makes the night less scary.
