"Straight"
One line becomes a road.
One road becomes a person.
"Straight" was inspired by the definitions of the word "straight" found in three of Japan's most respected dictionaries: Shinmeikai Kokugo Jiten, Meikyo Kokugo Jiten, and Kojien.
"Not bent."
"Without detours."
"Nothing to hide."
As I followed these definitions, I realized that being straight is not simply about the shape of a line-it is a way of living.
Life is full of uncertainty, detours, and moments of doubt. Yet if we refuse to deceive ourselves and continue returning to the direction we truly believe in, perhaps that is what it really means to be straight.
"It's easy to bend.
To stay straight is sacred."
This idea first appeared in my earlier song, "Poco a Poco," created during my Dictionary Journey inspired by Kojien. "Straight" carries that philosophy one step further.
Presented by Kneeking Records, this is one chapter in the ongoing Dictionary Journey series.
Kneeking Records is a label that expresses the journey through dictionaries in music. Founded by Yoshihiro Sato, a calligrapher, dictionary traveler, and former world kickboxing champion. Since 2013, he has read, written, and shared words almost every day. In 2025, he began transforming these works into music. The journey continues to grow. The sound spans reggae, j-pop, r&b, soul, house, gospel, funk, ska, and sometimes punk rock. It values the rhythm of language and creates music that feels natural and refined. Each piece is inspired by calligraphy and shaped into sound.
