Artist Profile

  • Lil'Yukichi

Born on the United States Fleet Activities Yokosuka naval base in Japan, he grew up surrounded by music from an early age due to his parents' influence. At 15, he began his career as the rapper Cherry Brown. Driven by a desire to create original tracks but he didn't know nobody that compose beats around him,So he started producing his own beats using the built-in drum machine on his MTR. After a brief period using the Roland SP-404, he discovered that Soulja Boy,one of his major influences used FL Studio. He purchased FL Studio 6, marking the official start of his career as the beatmaker and producer Lil'Yukichi. As a duo with Cherry Brown, he released a total of five mixtapes online. In his early years, he produced for artists such as TRILL GRILLZ, Richee (Ghetto Inc.), and Minchanbaby. Around 2008, he won remix contests for SEEDA & OKI and SD JUNKSTA, which significantly boosted his recognition among Japanese rap fans. His production style is centered around Southern US sounds primarily Atlanta and Memphis styles which were still rare in Japan during the late 2000s. His key influences include Lil Jon, Three 6 Mafia, Shawty Redd, Kc Da Beatmonster, K-Rab, and Soulja Boy. While his primary style is Trap, he has expanded his discography in recent years with Lo-Fi Hip Hop beat tapes and instrumental ambient tracks. In 2018, he retired the Cherry Brown moniker and began releasing tracks featuring his own vocals under the name Lil'Yukichi. He has provided production for a diverse array of artists across genres, including Bun B, PSYCHIC FEVER, BEAR1BOSS, SALU, BAD HOP, STARGLOW, MANON, OZworld, Red Eye, Kan a.k.a. GAMI & D.O, Deech, and KOHH. He has also handled official remixes for a wide range of acts, such as singer-songwriter Aimyon, the idol group C-ute, and the legendary Japanese hip-hop group Scha Dara Parr. As a DJ, he blends hip-hop with electronic music, showcasing a unique selection and mixing style that utilizes effects and loops. In 2025, returning to his roots, he released the mixtape-style project "Maji Kansha" featuring unique artists from both Japan and the US. In addition to the mixtape version, the project was released in multiple formats, including a "No DJ" album version, a Screwed & Chopped version, and an instrumental version.
