"Under the Sky Where Cherry Blossoms Dance" was born from my deep contemplation of Japan's changing seasons, the transience of life, and the eternal cycle of existence.
The inspiration for this song came on a spring day, as I watched cherry blossoms falling in the grounds of an ancient shrine. Each petal dancing in the wind seemed like an irreplaceable life, and I felt simultaneously the beauty and impermanence of our existence. Though life is finite, it continues through new lives-we exist within this eternal cycle.
In the first verse, I expressed the freshness of a new day beginning with the sunrise and the nostalgia of tracing memories as spring arrives. In the second verse, using the backdrop of the twilight sea, I depicted the determination to move forward while accepting life's burdens, and hope for the future like stars shining in the night sky.
The refrain "Under the sky where cherry blossoms dance" embodies the Japanese aesthetic concept of "mono no aware"-the pathos of things. I wanted to honor this uniquely Japanese sensibility that finds beauty precisely in impermanence.
My hope is that this song will resonate quietly with listeners and provide courage and hope to continue forward when they pause along life's journey.
