Who are Hihokan?
Hihokan is an evolutionary free jazz band formed in 2010 by a diverse group of dynamic musicians. A technically virtuoso jazz unit, Hihokan became one of the most anticipated groups in Tokyo with the lavish theatricality of its individual members, the maxed-out energy of its pop sounds, and a constantly transforming line-up, including traditional Japanese instruments.
The breadth of its catalog is the key to Hihokan's overwhelming sound, featuring both original songs, explosive free-style improv, and covers of standard numbers, as well as pop music and anthems far removed from the definitions of regular jazz. The name "Hihokan" itself is a neologism, meaning a sense of treasure that is hidden.
