Lyric

You leave the window open

And let the morning in

A cup beside your notebook

A half-remembered hymn

The wooden floor is creaking

Beneath your careful steps

You turn the page so slowly

As if the day has slept

Stay here a little longer

No need to name the hour

Your hand is warm in mine now

Like rain held in a flower

Stay here a little longer

Let quiet have its way

The world can wait outside us

While we begin the day

A blue line crosses curtains

The kettle starts to sing

You tell me about Sunday

And every smaller thing

The table holds two saucers

The garden holds its breath

I hear your soft confession

And keep it close to chest

Stay here a little longer

No need to name the hour

Your hand is warm in mine now

Like rain held in a flower

Stay here a little longer

Let quiet have its way

The world can wait outside us

While we begin the day

If all we have is minutes

Then let them settle clear

No promise needs a picture

When you are standing here

The window stays wide open

The coffee cools between us

You smile before you leave me

And take the quiet with you
