    Hiroyuki Asakawa: Pianist, Composer, Arranger and Music Therapist 1. Background and Education Born in 1981 in Ibaraki Prefecture, Hiroyuki Asakawa was raised in a musical family by a piano tuner father and a piano teacher mother. He began his classical training at age five and later developed an interest in electronic music and synthesizers. He holds a degree in Music Therapy from Showa University of Music and a Masters degree from Kunitachi College of Music. He is a certified music therapist recognized by the Japanese Association for Music Therapy. 2. Professional Music Career Asakawa has established himself as a versatile pianist, keyboardist, and arranger. He studied under esteemed mentors such as Yoshifumi Fujiwara (composition) and Makoto Kuriya (jazz piano), and served as an assistant to both Ken Shima and Makoto Kuriya. Collaborations: He has performed and recorded with numerous high profile artists, including Anri, Tomomi Kahara, Tamasaburo Bando, Hitomi Shimatani, and Miho Fukuhara. Solo Work: He released his first solo album, Departure, in 2012, followed by the album Aisuru Hito in 2020. Musical Theater: A significant highlight of his career is his involvement in the Broadway musical The Addams Family (Japanese production directed by Akira Shirai). He served as the Music Director, Conductor, and Rehearsal Pianist for both the 2014 premiere and the 2017 revival. 3. Clinical Practice and Current Activities Guided by his motto, Sincerity, Steadiness, and Dedication, Asakawa maintains a dual career as a performer and a healthcare professional. Recent Performances: In 2023, he toured as the pianist for Tomomi Kaharas nationwide tour. Most recently, in April 2025, he held his solo live performance Spring Breeze in Tokyo. Music Therapy: As of 2025, he continues to practice clinical music therapy at facilities such as the Ota Living Practice Center and Gakken Cocofun, working across the fields of child, adult, and geriatric care.
