So it turns out

That all expectation

And sadness

Gather

Into poems

Flowing toward

Your

Ocean

They land

Like birds

Light

On my shoulder

Leaving behind

A whisper of soul

Near my ear

From my eyes

My silent lips

And my furiously beating heart

They flow slowly

Untamed and resilient

Imbued with an independent will

That I cannot ignore

Dressed

In white robes

They swirl

They sing

Of the life of the whale

The song of the ocean

I can only

Let them pass through me

Watch them

Touch land

Transforming from transparent to iridescent

Becoming spirits of poetry—

The most beautiful gift

In this imperfect world

Then I let go

Letting them fly away

So it turns out

That all waiting

And sadness

Gather

Into poems
