Tokyo-based hip hop collective ONTHEΘRION releases their first single in two years following the passing of GONGON. Produced by Barttro and featuring Spod (em-pod, formerly of CHINPIRA), the track delivers a fierce four-MC relay that feels like GONGON rising from the grave, backed by sharp guitar riffs as a requiem. Mixing is handled by DJ YAB, known for his work with Senninsho and JUMANJI, and mastering by Hiroshi Shiota of SALT FIELD MASTERING.
This powerful tribute honors not only GONGON but also longtime friend and influential artist JJJ, who recently passed away. The song captures raw emotion, internal struggles, and family conflict, ultimately arriving at the realization that a friend's death is not an end but a new beginning. Like a flame on social media that grows stronger when suppressed, their music refuses to fade. ONTHEΘRION declares their commitment to continuing the free and independent spirit of GONGON and the hip hop he loved. Formed on January 31, 2017, ONTHEΘRION is a Tokyo-based hip hop collective founded by GONGON (ex B-DASH) along with members of the local crews the goonies and MoBStyle in Ota Ward. The group features beats and production by Barttro, with RoBArt$, dbun, and DONGAVACHO handling raps and lyrics. GONGON's verses were co-written by the three MCs.
From Boom Bap to Drill, Barttro's diverse beats combined with the rare four MC relay style create an explosive high impact sound that shakes the floor. Blending GONGON's punk legacy with the Yutori generation's mindset, their style is both fresh and confusing like a thick cloud of smoke.
Describing themselves as the Ramen Jiro Mita Honten of music, they operate out of 501.lab and their secret base in Ikejiri, constantly experimenting.
Since 2021, all three of their singles have surpassed 100000 streams and appeared on various charts and playlists. Despite their rising success, their love for Ramen Jiro and slow curves remains unchanged.
